A Request details

Al-Yamamah Electric Co.
SES-D-101 — MV Cable Joints (Rev 4)
4.3.2 — Mechanical pull test
12 months from approval
Replace longitudinal pull test (30 N/mm² × 1h) with combined cyclic-pull procedure per IEC 61442 Annex D, demonstrating equivalent or higher mechanical integrity over 100 cycles.
No impact on installation procedures. Test equipment already deployed at SEC Test Lab — no additional capex required.

B Justification

|

The proposed cyclic-pull procedure has been used internationally since 2018 and is recognized by IEC 61442 Annex D as equivalent or superior for MV joint mechanical qualification. SEC Test Lab has previously evaluated five vendor samples under this method (Reports CL-2024-07, CL-2024-08, CL-2024-09) with conformance correlation of 0.94 to the SES-D-101 procedure.

The cyclic procedure better reflects in-service stress profiles observed in the Eastern Province field surveys (FS-2025-Q1) and would reduce false-fail rates by an estimated 18% based on lab data.

Supporting evidence

SEC Test Lab Reports CL-2024-07 through CL-2024-09 are attached. Field correlation data from Al-Yamamah's installations between 2022–2025 is included in Annex 2.
